Dental Health Education and Screening Services in Partnership with Colgate Palmolive's Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Program

Through the Westchester County of The Link's partnership with the Colgate Palmolive Company's Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Program, the Colgate Dental Van has visited schools, neighborhood health centers, and community events and fairs throughout Westchester County to offer children up to twelve years of age free dental health education, screenings by volunteer dentists, and where needed, referrals to low-cost dental services.

The first school to welcome the Colgate Dental Van and the Westchester County Chapter of The Links to bring dental education screenings, and referrals to services where needed, was the Cecil Parker School in Mount Vernon, NY. Here, students of the Cecil Parker School are shown with a chapter member.

Members of the chapter bring children into the van when it's their turn to be screened. Others work in the van to record the outcomes of the screenings and make the children feel comfortable. In this photograph, a student and a chapter member are shown inside the van.

Members of the Westchester County Chapter of The Links join with the volunteer dentists to conduct dental education presentations, such as the one in this picture. The presentations explain to the children the importance of dental health and how to take care of their teeth and gums.

Chapter members record the results of the screenings, including that referral information was made available to the parent because there was a need for immediate services. In this picture, a child who's come into the van for his screening is shown with a volunteer dentist and a chapter member.

As shown in this picture of children with several chapter members, the children at the schools and community events served by the Colgate Dental Van enjoy being in the van.

Service Activities at the Food Bank for Westchester
The Westchester County (NY) Chapter of The Links partners with the Food Bank for Westchester to package donated food that is distributed at non-profit organizations and churches to help combat hunger and food insecurity in the County. Chapter members volunteer at monthly three-hour sessions during which they pack food that can feed over 3,000 individuals a year.

At one of our Chapter's monthly volunteer service activity at the Food Bank, one of our members, Mary Spells displays a box that's been packed with nourishing food that will help a low-income individual or family make ends meet.

Chapter members enjoy working together to package food in various size units that are appropriate for either families or seniors or other individuals living on their own.
